Catch-all email audit starts today

As per a previous email on this topic, we are working on reducing the
amount of garbage email received by our members via catch-all email
maps and alleviate problems we have forwarding legitimate email to
certain ISPs.

This is a one-time process to remove UNUSED catch-all email addresses
from the system.

We are not removing any functionality. In fact we have added a new
"aliasing" feature to DNS-only and Parked domains: instead of using
a catch-all email address on your domains you may now specify up to
five email aliases which will be forwarded to your email address,
eliminating the junk mail sent to random addresses inside your domain.

In basic terms, you simply need to login to your account and access your
email settings and "confirm" any catch-all email maps which will be clearly
marked as requiring confirmation (there is also a bulk confirm tool in
the utilities module).

THE BENEFIT TO YOU:

This one time exercise will eliminate large quantities of junk mail
transiting our system to our members, reduce the amount of unwanted
mail you receive directly and ease the problems we are having
forwarding mail to our network peers.

Help us combat domain slamming

Many, if not all of you are by now familiar with the grossly misnamed
"renewal notices" you receive in the mail from the Domain Registry of
Canada.

(If you are unfamiliar with this or thought they were real renewal

We have received a request from the Canadian Internet Policy and
Public Interest Clinic at the University of Ottawa to supply them
with any "evidence of harm" within our membership as a result of these
deceptive tactics.

If we find enough data supporting the position that these practices harm
Canadian internet users, we will accept a CIPPIC invitation to join them
in launching an action against the Domain Registry of Canada with the
Competition Bureau.

So if you ever responded to a "renewal notice" from Domain Registry of Canada
and as a result had your domain transferred away from easyDNS to DROC without
realizing that this would happen, we would like to hear from you.

System update and SSL certs now available

We have completed most of our system upgrades in the face of the recent
Denial-of-Service attacks and thus far we are cautiously optimistic about
the results.

We increased our bandwidth capacity significantly at Q9 and replaced our
firewalls with new equipment and DOS-mitigation measures and devices.
We were then attacked again at Q9 last week and despite the web interface
being unavailable for a brief period of time, all other services local to
Q9, including DNS, remained unaffected.

We have also redeployed the remote nameservers to Prolexic.com datacenters
and again, are pleased with the results. The nameservers there have come
through several more DOS attacks completely unscathed and with no
noticeable effects on our service.

Following up on some concerns about redundancy throughout the DOS
attacks, we've added a feature to allow members to add nameserver redundancy
beyond the easyDNS nameserver cluster.

will allow those nameservers to slave your zones from us.
