You've got to love lawyers - why does this not surprise me...
Might as well shoot an email over to Michael Moore (mike@michaelmoore.com) and let him know he should dock a few hours off the next bill from "Franklin, Weinrib, Rudell & Vassallo".
are these lawyers representing michael moore or the wienstien company? I highly doubt michael moore would advocate such legal procedures especially after he made such comments as "im giving you my blanket permission".
As the person who composed and disseminated the letters, I feel the need to comment. While, yes, we realize the way the internet works, there is such a thing called copyright. Every artist has the right to decide how and where his or her work is distributed. Michael Moore gave permission for downloading in the US and Canada, and he has the right to object to downloads outside of those two countries. Period.
Second, this is not a case of racking up billable hours. This was a request from the Weinstein Company. Personally, I'd rather not bother. But this is my job, and I'm going to do it. Because that's what the client wants. I appreciate your position, but you might want to check your smug self-righteousness at the door.
a torrent out of Sweden? That must be the dreaded (as far as the music/film industry is concerned) The Pirate Bay site. Moore's attorney's can send all the take-down letters they want. All that will happen is TPB will post the letters in their legal section of the site, and mock the lawyers.
