What our subscribers need to know about the new .ca private whois service:
On June 10/2008 CIRA is implementing a new .CA Whois policy which directly affects all .CA domains registered under the names of individuals
(as opposed to .CA names registered to Corporations)
It is advised that all .CA holders review the policy as outlined here:
http://www.cira.ca/en/Whois/whois_intro.html
After June 10, for all applicable .CA Whois records, only the domain name, registrar and nameservers will be publicly available.
It will be more important than ever that you have accurate Whois information before the implementation of the new Whois privacy service. Once it goes private, if you do not already know who the listed registrant of your domain name is it may be very difficult to gain access to that domain on their easyDNS members page.
easyDNS support staff will not be able to tell you who the registrant of a domain name is without you having access to the easyDNS members page that holds the domain name.
If you do not have access to your easyDNS members page and do not know what the registrant information is for your domain(s) you will have very hard time gaining access to the domain to make any dns or Whois modifications.
We strongly recommend that
1): All .CA Registrants review their current Whois information for their .ca domains and make a paper or digital copy to fall back on if
required. You can view the current whois records for your domains at:
http://whois.cira.ca/public/ or
http://www.easywhois.com/
easyDNS also sends members Whois Data Reminder Notices via email once a year for each domain. You may have copies of your Whois records in your email folders. The subject line of these emails are:
"easyDNS WHOIS Data Reminder for DOMAIN"
Where DOMAIN is the domain name in your easyDNS member account for which we are the Registrar of record.
2): Make sure that you have the working login credentials to gain access to your easyDNS members pages and the working CIRA login credentials to be able to confirm any CIRA Whois changes. (You can obtain your CIRA login credentials by logging into your easyDNS member account and using the "Send CIRA Password" function of the Utilities module).
3): Make any Whois contact changes now to ensure the domains have valid administrative contact information.
In other words, prior to June 10th, please
make sure you can access your easyDNS account
check the accuracy of your .CA Whois records
Thank you,
easyDNS Support
