Since I don't rely on email for urgent personal communications (I don't think it was ever designed for that purpose; but I digress), I am quite comfortable with greylisting for my personal email. In fact, I currently relay some of my mail through specific sites so as to implement greylisting. This has had no detectable adverse effects, and has had a substantial benefit in SPAM reduction.
Can I have control of greylisting for ALL of my relayed email, please!
I read this hoping that there would be some look into implementing greylisting on all the easydns SMTP servers. I use the easydns servers as secondary MX servers, and sometimes the mail is redirected to those servers when my primary email server defers the initial attempt. Also spammers do like using secondary MX servers due to the generally more relaxed approach to them. However them not having greylisting operating means that they are accepted on the initial attempt, and then they are straight into my mailbox.
Any chance a review could be made to allow greylisting for everyone on everything?
Hello Edward,
When using easyDNS for backup mailspooling, it is recommended that you only use "smtp2.easydns.com" within your MX records, and not include "smtp.easydns.com". "smtp2.easydns.com" is the cluster that currently has greylisting enabled upon it. As of right now, "smtp.easydns.com" is designated to handle email forwarding, and as such, greylisting is not enabled upon this cluster. Simply ensure that you are using "smtp2.easydns.com" as your secondary MX record, and the email we accept via the backup mailspooling service will be subjected to greylisting prior to being relayed to your primary once it is available again. What about another tactic used by spammers, to spoof your (my) domain in the email addresses. I gotten about 100 or more rejected emails, from addresses that I do not have in my domain, the typical spam message.
Is there a setting I can set up that will help the receiving service to know that the email is or is not a legit address? I am using the easydns smtp server with the client software from my computer. Rick Galbraith
Hello Rick,
If you are using the easyDNS mail forwarding service, and you have DNS-Plus for that domain, you may want to consider deleting your "default mailmap" in your mailmap settings (where you can specify a destination email address for "anyone_else@yourdomain.com"), or set it to "DISCARD". With the default mailmap not configured, any emails based on your domain name that you have NOT specified in your mailmaps will not be accepted by our mailservers. This will result in a noticeable reduction in the amount of spam you receive. I hope this helps. Regards, Evan @easyDNS Support. ---------------------------- |
